Loan Officer Training – Can You Learn to Be a Loan Officer?
Think back to when you were in school, do you recall anyone every telling they desired to be a Loan Officer? Anyone ever tell you they were studying to be a Mortgage Broker in high school? Most likely not, right?
But, there are still thousands of L.O.’s and Mortgage Professionals out in the world. Where did they come from? Where did they build up their skill, their abilities?
The fact is, being a Loan Officer is a learned skill, it’s something you have to work out, to probe, to observe, to listen, to learn by doing. If there is a college course on being a Mortgage Broker or L.O., I’ve yet to hear of it.
The point is this business is a learnable skill. Just as anything in life, you have to learn it from the ground up. Oh sure, there have been folks that have closed million dollar deals on their very first close, and that’s awesome, we need those folks in this business. But reality tells us that situation is few and far inbetween, but it is possible for ALL L.O.’s, just maybe not their very first time out of the shute.
So, for a fresh Loan Officer to be ready for this kind of deal, he/she has to be in a position to treat it, just in case there is no one around to assist them in doing so. Hence the training, or learning, aspect of the business comes into play. Unlike in school, you just can’t sign up for a class and display up and get a grade. In the Mortgage Business, you have to seek out the stuff yourself, for yourself.
